INDONESIA POISED TO PLAY GREATER ROLE IN MULTIPOLAR WORLD

Leading economists at the International Economic Association (IEA) World Congress said middle powers like Indonesia, Brazil, South Africa, and India are poised to play a larger role in shaping the global economy as it shifts toward a multipolar order. Rather than choosing sides between the United States and China, they urged developing nations to strengthen resilience, diversify trade and investment ties, and maintain policy flexibility. Indonesia’s strategy reflects this advice, balancing strong trade with China ($154.58 billion in 2025) and the U.S. ($43.8 billion), while deepening regional integration through RCEP and finalizing the Indonesia‑EU Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement. Economists stressed that the world is not entering de‑globalization but undergoing a reconfiguration driven by geopolitics. They argued resilience should come from diversifying markets, investing in infrastructure and institutions, and leveraging comparative advantages. Despite differing views on industrial policy, panelists agreed that open markets must be preserved, allowing countries to pursue domestic development strategies while collaborating on shared challenges such as climate change and artificial intelligence governance.Source: https://jakartaglobe.id/business/indonesia-poised-to-play-greater-role-in-multipolar-world (ICE GIACARTA)
