Fruit and vegetable processing plant opens in Almaty regionA fruit and vegetable processing plant backed by Turkish expertise has begun operations in Kazakhstan's Almaty region, with a second facility already under construction as part of a broader push to build a full-cycle agro-industrial cluster.The Qazaq Global Food JV plant, located in the village of Teskensu in the Enbekshikazakh district, was built at a cost of 9.5 billion tenge and will process up to 70,000 metric tonnes of raw produce per year, the regional administration said in a statement.A groundbreaking ceremony for a second plant was held alongside the launch of the first facility.The project is being carried out by Alpecon Group LLP. In its first phase, the plant will process 70,000 tonnes of raw material into 13,000 tonnes of fruit and vegetable juice concentrates, purees and pastes, all destined for export to Turkey.The second phase will produce pectin from apple waste, with the facility set to turn out 1,000 tonnes of pectin and 3,000 tonnes of apple fiber annually for export to South Korea and Japan.The project's strategic partner is Göknur Gıda, one of Turkey's leading companies in the sector.Samat Balabekov, general director of Alpecon Group, said the company plans to build Kazakhstan's first full-cycle agro-industrial cluster by 2028, integrating raw material production, digital technologies, specialist training, scientific research and exports. The ecosystem will include produce collection points stretching from the Zhetysu region in the southeast to the Akmola region in the north, with plans to bring in up to 10,000 farmers and roughly 500,000 agricultural workers.The plant has no direct equivalent in Kazakhstan, the statement said. Similar technologies remain rare in neighboring countries and are actively developing only in China, Germany and the United States.Construction of the plant began in December 2025. (ICE ALMATY)
