MARUTI SUZUKI WAGONR FLEX-FUEL INTRODUCED AS INDIA'S FIRST E85 CAR
Maruti Suzuki has taken the next step in India's ethanol journey with the launch of the WagonR Flex-Fuel, the country's first passenger car capable of running on E85 fuel. Unveiled in the presence of Union Ministers Nitin Gadkari and Hardeep Singh Puri, the car can operate on fuel blends containing up to 85 per cent ethanol, making Maruti Suzuki the first carmaker in India to bring a flex-fuel passenger vehicle to market. The government has set a target of 30 per cent ethanol blending in petrol by 2030, and the focus is now shifting towards higher ethanol concentrations. Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has indicated that E85 fuel will become commercially available in the near future and could cost less than E20 petrol, giving motorists another option at the pump. The WagonR Flex-Fuel is not a concept or a pilot project; it is a production-ready vehicle developed to run on a wide range of ethanol-petrol blends. Drivers can fill up with regular petrol, E20, or E85, and the car automatically adjusts to the fuel in the tank.India continues to import a significant portion of its crude oil requirements, making fuel diversification a priority. Increasing the use of ethanol, produced domestically from agricultural feedstock, is seen as one way to reduce that dependence while supporting the farming sector. The success of the WagonR Flex-Fuel will depend not only on customer acceptance but also on how quickly E85 becomes available across fuel stations. With the car now production-ready and fuel suppliers preparing for the next phase of ethanol adoption, flex-fuel mobility is moving from policy discussions to Indian roads.https://www.autox.com/news/car-news/maruti-suzuki-wagonr-flex-fuel-introduced-as-indias-first-e85-car-123672/ (ICE MUMBAI)
