Two of four Alstom service centers launched in KazakhstanTwo of four locomotive service centers being built under an investment agreement with French company Alstom have been put into operation in Kazakhstan, Industry and Construction Minister Yersaiyn Nagaspayev said."The centers in Shu and Almaty are already operational, while construction continues in Astana and Arys," Nagaspayev told a government meeting Tuesday.He said the project involves building four service centers in Astana, Almaty, Shu and Arys.The minister noted that developing localized locomotive maintenance services with Alstom is a priority for the railway engineering sector.He said the project would create about 700 jobs, ensure full-cycle locomotive maintenance, and increase the level of production localization and technological expertise at domestic enterprises.Earlier reports said construction of an electric locomotive maintenance depot is underway in Arys in partnership with Alstom. The facility sits on 2.9 hectares and is also expected to develop railway equipment maintenance services.The Arys project is valued at 3.5 billion tenge and is expected to create more than 100 permanent jobs after commissioning.Alstom plans to invest 50 million euros in building the four electric locomotive maintenance centers in Kazakhstan.
