INDONESIA CHANGES IMPORT RULES TO EASE CARGO DELAYS, IMPROVE COMPLIANCE
The Indonesian government has updated its import policy through Trade Minister Regulation No. 18 of 2026 to improve efficiency, legal certainty, and oversight. The revision introduces key procedural changes, including allowing Surveyor Reports (LS) to be issued even after Import Approvals (PI) expire, as long as inspections were completed before expiration and goods have already arrived. It also adds a validation system to ensure consistency between Import Approval data used in customs declarations and Surveyor Reports, helping reduce discrepancies and streamline processing. Additionally, the regulation imposes stricter sanctions on importers who fail to submit required import realization reports, including possible suspension of Import Approvals within the same commodity category. It also strengthens the government’s ability to address disruptions in the flow of imported goods by allowing special measures or exemptions in cases involving national interests or supply chain issues. While most provisions take effect on July 4, 2026, the rule on handling import bottlenecks has been in force since June 4, 2026.Source: https://jakartaglobe.id/business/indonesia-changes-import-rules-to-ease-cargo-delays-improve-compliance (ICE GIACARTA)
