INDONESIA TO BUILD 100 MODERN RICE WAREHOUSES: MINISTER
Indonesia’s Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman announced that the Indonesian government will build 100 new warehouses for the State Logistics Agency (Bulog) to strengthen the national food reserve system. The project, approved with a budget of around IDR 5 trillion (approximately US$278 million), aims to upgrade the country’s food logistics infrastructure. These warehouses will use modern storage technology capable of maintaining rice quality for at least two years, and potentially up to three years—an improvement over current conventional storage methods. The new facilities are expected to enhance the security of national food stocks and help stabilize rice supply and prices, especially as government rice reserves have reached about 3.5 million tons as of early June 2026. The initiative also responds to concerns raised by lawmakers about declining quality in existing stored rice. Bulog officials emphasized that the construction of these warehouses is a strategic move to expand post-harvest storage capacity, strengthen the national logistics system, and improve overall food security.Source: https://en.antaranews.com/news/418812/indonesia-to-build-100-modern-rice-warehouses-minister?utm_source=antaranews&utm_medium=mobile&utm_campaign=latest_category (ICE GIACARTA)
