INDONESIA ADVANCES INTEGRATED BIOFUEL PLANT PROJECT IN LAMPUNG

Indonesia’s Investment and Downstreaming Ministry is pushing forward plans to develop an integrated bioethanol factory in Lampung to strengthen national energy security. The project emphasizes renewable energy based on locally sourced agricultural feedstocks such as sugarcane molasses, sorghum, and biomass waste. During a visit to the province, Deputy Minister Todotua Pasaribu oversaw the signing of a collaboration agreement between the provincial government and major partners, including PT Pertamina New and Renewable Energy and Toyota-affiliated companies, to build a complete bioethanol ecosystem covering supply chains, technology, and investment. Lampung was chosen due to its abundant feedstock, strategic location, and strong logistics infrastructure supporting major energy-consuming regions like Sumatra and Java. The project will begin with a pilot phase involving limited sorghum cultivation and a small-scale production facility, before expanding into a large commercial operation with significantly higher production capacity. Construction is targeted to start in 2027 with operations expected by 2028, while partners will first conduct feasibility studies, design plans, and financing arrangements to prepare for full implementation.Source: https://en.antaranews.com/news/418711/indonesia-advances-integrated-biofuel-plant-project-in-lampung (ICE GIACARTA)
