BANK INDONESIA RAISES BI-RATE TO 5.50% TO STABILIZE RUPIAH
Bank Indonesia (BI) raised its benchmark interest rate (BI-Rate) by 25 basis points to 5.50% during its weekly Board of Governors meeting. This decision aims to stabilize the weakening Rupiah and control inflation amid global volatility, internal foreign exchange demand, and foreign capital outflows. Governor Perry Warjiyo stated the hike will increase yields to attract foreign portfolio investments back into Indonesia. Consequently, the Deposit Facility and Lending Facility rates were also increased to 4.50% and 6.25%, respectively. The policy move follows a sharp depreciation of the Rupiah, which opened at Rp18,134 per US dollar on Tuesday morning after tumbling to Rp18,188 the previous evening.Source: https://www.antaranews.com/berita/5600265/stabilisasi-rupiah-bi-kembali-naikkan-bunga-acuan-jadi-55-persen (ICE GIACARTA)
