INDONESIA STRENGTHENS ITS POSITION IN THE GLOBAL HERBAL MEDICINE INDUSTRY
Indonesia is emerging as a significant player in the global herbal medicine industry, leveraging its vast biodiversity—second only to Brazil—with over 30,000 medicinal plant species and strong scientific research. Experts like Raymond R. Tjandrawinata of PT Dexa Medica emphasize that Indonesia has the potential not just as a raw material supplier but as a producer of modern natural medicines that meet international standards. He points to the success of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Ayurveda as examples of how integrating herbal medicine into formal health systems can build global credibility and market strength. Through Dexa Laboratories of Biomolecular Sciences (DLBS), Indonesia has been developing Modern Natural Integrative Medicine (OMAI) for over two decades, focusing on evidence-based research, standardization, and clinical trials. This portfolio now includes therapies such as immunomodulators, herbal treatments for PCOS, and stroke recovery support. Indonesian phytopharmaceuticals are already exported to countries like the Philippines and Cambodia, where they are recommended by medical professionals. With continued innovation and integration into healthcare systems, Indonesia aims to achieve recognition similar to China’s TCM and India’s Ayurveda, positioning biodiversity-based medicine as a cornerstone of national health independence and a contributor to the global pharmaceutical market.Source: https://industri.kontan.co.id/news/indonesia-perkuat-posisi-di-industri-obat-herbal-global (ICE GIACARTA)
