INDONESIA PUSHES US$6.7 BILLION DOWNSTREAM PROJECTS TO BOOST ECONOMY
Indonesia's President Prabowo Subianto emphasized that downstreaming is central to Indonesia’s economic growth, energy security, and national sovereignty, stating that domestic processing of natural resources is the “only path to prosperity.” Speaking at the launch of 13 Phase II national downstream projects worth Rp116 trillion in Cilacap, he highlighted the need to reduce reliance on foreign markets and strengthen control over the entire production chain from upstream to downstream. He also underlined the urgency of accelerating energy and food self‑sufficiency as part of Indonesia’s long‑term economic resilience. Investment and Downstreaming Minister Rosan Roeslani explained that the projects span the energy, mining, and agricultural sectors, with a strong focus on value creation and integration. Key initiatives include refinery developments in Cilacap and Dumai, expected to reduce fuel imports by around US$1.25 billion annually, and coal‑to‑dimethyl ether (DME) projects in Tanjung Enim to substitute LPG imports. Altogether, the projects are projected to create about 600,000 jobs while deepening Indonesia’s domestic industrial base.Source: https://en.antaranews.com/news/414047/prabowo-pushes-us67-bln-downstream-projects-to-boost-economy (ICE GIACARTA)
