MINISTRY OF TRADE RESTRICTS AGRICULTURAL IMPORTS TO BOLSTER FOOD SOVEREIGNTY

Trade Minister Budi Santoso announced Ministry of Trade Regulation Number 11 of 2026, which imposes new restrictions on specific agricultural imports starting May 8, 2026. This regulation targets commodities including feed wheat, soybean meal, mung beans, peanuts, feed rice, and pears. The policy aims to protect domestic producer prices and strengthen national food security by reducing import dependency. Under the new rules, importers must obtain technical recommendations from the Ministry of Agriculture and secure specific Import Approvals (PI). For feed rice and pears, additional requirements such as Commodity Balances and Surveyor Reports are mandatory. These measures seek to revitalize local farming interests by preventing the unrestricted entry of foreign agricultural products.Source: https://www.antaranews.com/berita/5548179/kemendag-terbitkan-aturan-baru-soal-pembatasan-impor-pertanian (ICE GIACARTA)
