AGREEMENTS WORTH $233 MILLION SIGNED FOR THE NATIONAL WATER CARRIER PROJECT IN M

In March, international financing and grant agreements totaling approximately $233 million were signed to support the National Water Carrier Project. These agreements, involving the US, Germany, and the UK, are intended to accelerate the implementation of this strategic initiative in Jordan. Through the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation, the government signed a $203 million grant agreement with the US to finance the Aqaba–Amman water desalination and conveyance project. This funding falls under the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) agreement for the period 2020–2025. A memorandum of understanding was also concluded with the UK, providing £5.3 million in support of the National Carrier, further demonstrating international backing for Jordan’s efforts to strengthen its water security. In addition, the government signed a €22 million grant agreement with Germany in March to support the project, bringing Germany’s total contributions to €127 million. (ICE AMMAN)
