INVESTOR SOUGHT FOR 22 REGIONAL AIRPORTS After Easter, an invitation to express interest in an international competition
Greece is concurrently advancing a strategic overhaul of its defense industry and critical transport infrastructure to bolster national growth and modernization. The defense sector is transitioning toward a production-oriented ecosystem, utilizing major armament programs as investment platforms that integrate domestic firms into global value chains for high-tech sectors like electronic warfare and unmanned systems. This shift ensures that defense spending acts as a catalyst for local innovation and economic multiplier benefits, rather than merely facilitating foreign procurement.Simultaneously, the state is launching an open international tender for the en bloc concession of 22 regional airports, including gateways like Alexandroupolis, Naxos, and Paros. This decision prioritizes immediate action over slower regulatory alternatives to accommodate a projected surge in global passenger traffic through 2054. With a required investment exceeding 200 million euros, the project aims to transform these state-managed assets into modern hubs capable of supporting Greece’s expanding tourism sector and the service needs of local communities. Together, these initiatives reflect a unified national strategy to strengthen industrial autonomy while upgrading essential infrastructure for the future. (ICE ATENE)
