At the end of March, the Superfund will announce the tender for the long-term concession of a part of the Elefsina Port Authority . Today, Thursday, the Superfund will also select a technical consultant for the concession of the port, who will evaluate the investments required in order for Vlycha – the place where the new port is to be developed – to become a new international maritime trade hub. Interest is already being expressed for the concession. The AKTOR and ONEX Shipyards & Technologies groups have signed an exclusive cooperation agreement, with the aim of their joint participation in the upcoming tender of the Superfund for the concession of the commercial exploitation of the port of Elefsina. The tender will be conducted in two phases. The first will concern the expression of interest and the second the submission of binding financial offers. The Superfund, after receiving the expression of interest files, will proceed with their evaluation in order to determine whether the eligibility criteria of the candidates are met and will then proceed with the announcement of the second phase. The development of the port of Eleusis – an infrastructure that has remained largely obsolete for decades – aspires to be part of a broader international geopolitical plan to create an alternative trade route, known as IMEC. While Piraeus is the terminus of China’s maritime “Silk Road”, Eleusis is intended to become the European hub for alternative corridors promoted by the EU and the US, such as the IMEC (India – Middle East – Europe Corridor) or the connections through the Three Seas Initiative.
