BRIN TARGETS STRATEGIC RESEARCH TO BOOST INDONESIA'S COSMETIC INDUSTRY

The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) is prioritizing strategic research to strengthen Indonesia’s domestic cosmetics industry, which has seen rapid growth of 77 percent from 2020 to 2025. BRIN Head Arif Satria highlighted that the expanding market can only be fully captured if domestic industries develop superior innovation and technology. With the cosmetics market projected to reach around US$7.5 billion by 2024–2025, he stressed the importance of increasing the role of local producers to reduce dependence on foreign cosmetic brands. To achieve this, BRIN is encouraging research that supports both upstream and downstream sectors of the cosmetics industry, ensuring Indonesia gains added value rather than remaining a raw material exporter. Satria emphasized that strong upstream processes are vital to guarantee the quality and continuity of raw materials, which in turn supports industrial growth. As part of this effort, BRIN is conducting research on essential oil processing and promoting collaboration between researchers and industry through programs such as BRIN Goes to Industry III, aiming to drive sustainable industrial development in Indonesia.Source: https://en.antaranews.com/news/412595/brin-targets-strategic-research-to-boost-indonesias-cosmetic-industry  (ICE GIACARTA)
