INDONESIAN GOVERNMENT READIES ELECTRIC VEHICLE INDUSTRY ROADMAP

Indonesia is moving decisively toward electric vehicles (EVs) under President Prabowo Subianto’s directive to shift away from fossil fuel-powered transport. Industry Minister of Indonesia, Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, emphasized that the transition will cover all segments — motorcycles, passenger cars, trucks, and buses — with a national roadmap and regulatory framework being prepared to accelerate the domestic EV ecosystem. A major focus is on scaling up electric motorcycle production to ensure future domestic sales are increasingly dominated by EVs, while conventional internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles will continue but mainly for export markets. This policy direction aligns with Indonesia’s broader industrial and clean energy goals, strengthening its manufacturing base while reducing reliance on fossil fuels. A milestone in this push came with the inauguration of an electric commercial vehicle assembly facility by VKTR Sakti Industries in Central Java, where President Prabowo praised the private sector’s role, particularly the Bakrie Group’s long-term commitment to EV manufacturing. The initiative reflects Indonesia’s strategy of combining industrial growth with sustainable energy transition.Source: https://jakartaglobe.id/business/government-readies-electric-vehicle-industry-roadmap-as-prabowo-pushes-transition#goog_rewarded (ICE GIACARTA)
