Kazakhstan budget beats target by 4.4% in first quarter as revenue jumps 17%Kazakhstan’s national budget revenue reached 6.4 trillion tenge in the first quarter of 2026, exceeding the government’s target by 4.4% and rising 16.9% compared with the same period last year, the government press service said.Revenue surpassed the 6.2 trillion tenge plan by 268.7 billion tenge.“The increase was driven by favorable prices for export goods, higher volumes of goods and services sold, as well as results of tax and customs administration,” the government said in a statement.Both the national and local budgets recorded surpluses.Tax receipts account for 98% of republican budget revenue. In the first quarter, tax revenue stood at about 4.2 trillion tenge, reaching 101.8% of the 4 trillion tenge target.The growth was led by a 16.9% increase in corporate income tax, a 24.2% rise in value-added tax on imports and a 35.7% jump in mineral extraction tax.The government noted that first-quarter figures were affected by the timing of VAT payments for the fourth quarter of 2025, which were due in January and February 2026.Since the start of the year, 392,000 individuals have registered under the special tax regime for self-employed people, and the number of VAT payers rose by 10,000.The government has set a target for national budget tax revenue at 18.9 trillion tenge for the full year 2026, which would be 4.4 trillion tenge above actual collections in 2025.
