INDONESIA'S HEAVY EQUIPMENT SALES TO RISE WITH MINING PRODUCTION PLANS
Heavy equipment sales in Indonesia are projected to rebound in the second half of 2026, driven by the government’s approval of mining production plans known as RKAB. After a period of restrained demand and a "wait-and-see" approach from buyers, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has green-lit coal production quotas totaling approximately 580 million tonnes. This regulatory progress is a critical turning point for the industry, as valid RKAB permits are essential for mining companies to legally ramp up operations, secure corporate financing, and expand their machinery fleets. The surge in equipment demand is further supported by a strategic government policy shift to capitalize on high global coal prices, which have climbed due to geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and threats to global oil and gas shipments. Although the government initially considered cutting production targets to manage oversupply, the recent acceleration of approvals for major players like PT Intraco Penta indicates a move toward maximizing output. With coal futures rising significantly and the approval bottleneck finally clearing, the market for excavators, haul trucks, and bulldozers is expected to gather pace as companies rush to meet their ambitious year-end production targets.
