INDONESIA TO BUILD METHANOL PLANTS FOR B50 BIODIESEL EXPANSION

Indonesia's state-owned fertilizer producer, Pupuk Indonesia, plans to build two methanol plants in Lhokseumawe, Aceh, and Bontang, East Kalimantan, to support Indonesia’s B50 biodiesel program. President Director Rahmad Pribadi said the facilities will supply a critical input needed to process crude palm oil into biodiesel, positioning the company as a key player in the country’s biofuel supply chain. The projects align with the government’s push to strengthen domestic energy inputs and reduce reliance on imports. Indonesia currently imports around 1.5 million tons of methanol annually, a figure that could rise to 2.5 million tons without new capacity. Backed by government mandates and approval from sovereign wealth fund Danantara, the projects have completed feasibility studies, with a partnership signed with Abu Dhabi’s Mubadala for the Lhokseumawe plant. Both sites were chosen for proximity to gas resources, and construction is expected to take about 40 months, supporting Indonesia’s long-term energy security and biodiesel expansion goals.Source: https://indonesiabusinesspost.com/6438/energy-and-resources/pupuk-indonesia-builds-methanol-plants-for-b50-biodiesel-expansion (ICE GIACARTA)
