INDONESIA TO ROLL OUT B50 BIODIESEL FROM JULY 1
Indonesia is set to implement a B50 biodiesel mandate starting July 1, 2026, following successful six-month trials across the maritime, rail, and heavy equipment sectors. Indonesia's Energy Minister, Bahlil Lahadalia, emphasized that the shift from the current B40 blend to a 50% palm-based mixture is a strategic move to bolster national energy security amid rising geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. By leveraging domestic palm oil resources, the government aims to insulate the country from global supply shocks and reduce its heavy reliance on imported fossil fuels. The policy is a cornerstone of President Prabowo Subianto’s economic strategy, projected to reduce fossil fuel consumption by approximately 4 million kiloliters annually. Beyond environmental benefits—building on the 38.88 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent already saved by the B40 program—the transition is expected to save the state up to IDR 48 trillion (US$2.81 billion) in subsidies. To ensure a smooth rollout, state energy firm PT Pertamina will manage the distribution gradually, monitoring technical performance to maintain supply stability across the archipelago.Source: https://en.antaranews.com/news/411389/indonesia-to-roll-out-b50-biodiesel-from-july-1-lahadalia (ICE GIACARTA)
