Kazakhstan automakers plan to launch production of four new components in 2026Kazakhstan’s automakers plan to expand local component production in 2026, including the launch of four new types of components, president of the Kazakhstan Automotive Union Anar Mukasheva said on Friday.“Our manufacturers have commitments to increase production using completely knocked down [CKD] assembly, and four additional components are planned to be introduced starting in 2026,” Makasheva told Interfax-Kazakhstan on the sidelines of the 13th Forum of Machine Builders of Kazakhstan. She said the new components would include mufflers, floor coverings, and heating and cooling systems for passenger cars in Almaty, as well as cab structures for trucks in Kostanay.Makasheva said 11 enterprises are currently operating in Kazakhstan producing passenger cars, trucks and buses, with one additional project under implementation. Existing locally produced components include batteries, seats, multimedia systems, plastic parts and other items. In 2025, production of all vehicle types rose 18% to 171,400 units from 145,300 a year earlier.A significant share of vehicles is produced using CKD assembly. Last year, more than 29% of output was manufactured using this method, with six new components added to production.Makasheva said Kazakhstan had revised its approach to measuring localization in the auto industry. Instead of percentage-based indicators, the country now applies a domestic value-added approach that takes into account the actual scope of technological operations and component production within the country.Previously, components produced in Eurasian Economic Union countries were counted toward localization in Kazakhstan. At that time, localization levels ranged from 33% to 50%, depending on the vehicle type.According to the Kazakhstan Automotive Union, sales of passenger cars, trucks and buses in 2025 rose 14.5% to 234,900 vehicles, while the share of domestically produced vehicles increased from 66% to 69%. Industry employment grew 62.5% to 11,200 people. Last year, direct investment in the auto sector rose 5.3% to 199.9 billion tenge. (ICE ALMATY)
