INDONESIA ACCELERATES HALAL INDUSTRY ECOSYSTEM AHEAD CERTIFICATION MANDATE
The Indonesian Ministry of Industry is accelerating the development of Indonesia’s halal ecosystem ahead of mandatory halal certification for pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and consumer goods starting October 18, 2026. Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita emphasized that Indonesia has the potential to become a global halal industry hub, supported by strong export performance and a large domestic market. The Ministry is implementing the Halal Industry Development Roadmap Phase II (2025–2029), focusing on boosting competitiveness in key sectors such as food and beverages, textiles, apparel, leather, and footwear. Efforts include awareness programs like the TEXTalk event held by BBSPJI Tekstil to educate industry players about halal certification requirements. Government agencies, including Agency for Industrial Standardization and Services Policy (BSKJI) and Center for Standardization and Textile Industry Services (BBSPJI Tekstil), are strengthening support for industry readiness through technical services, education, and accredited halal inspection capabilities. One major challenge is the incomplete halal supply chain, especially regarding raw and auxiliary materials. BBSPJI Tekstil is providing critical halal control point guidelines to help companies identify risks and gather essential documents such as halal certificates, Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), Certificates of Analysis (COA), and non‑porcine declarations. The Ministry remains optimistic that collaboration among government, industry, and supporting institutions will turn halal certification into a strategic tool to boost Indonesia’s industrial competitiveness globally, beyond merely fulfilling regulatory obligations.Source: https://rri.co.id/en/business/2313470/indonesia-accelerates-halal-industry-ecosystem-ahead-certification-mandate (ICE GIACARTA)
