INDONESIA, MALAYSIA, BRUNEI LAUNCH ASEAN FERTILIZER ALLIANCE
The newly formed Southeast Asia Fertilizer Association (SEAFA)—established by Indonesia’s Pupuk Indonesia, Malaysia’s Petronas Chemicals Group Berhad, and Brunei Fertilizer Industries—marks a significant step in regional cooperation. Its purpose is to strengthen collaboration among ASEAN fertilizer producers to safeguard food security and enhance global competitiveness. Pupuk Indonesia’s President Director Rahmad Pribadi stressed that SEAFA is not just symbolic but a strategic response to increasingly complex agricultural challenges, especially amid geopolitical tensions in the Middle East that disrupt energy and fertilizer supply chains. At its launch, SEAFA appointed Pupuk Indonesia as chairman, Petronas Chemicals as co-chair, and set its secretariat in Brunei. The association is expected to drive initiatives in low-carbon technologies, sustainable production, and supply chain digitalization, while also representing Southeast Asia in global food security and climate change discussions. Domestically, SEAFA offers Indonesia opportunities to expand access to technology, boost production capacity, and reinforce its fertilizer supply chain. Deputy Agriculture Minister Sudaryono highlighted that fertilizer is directly tied to food security, making international collaboration essential in facing global uncertainty.Source: https://jakartaglobe.id/business/indonesia-malaysia-brunei-launch-asean-fertilizer-alliance-to-bolster-food-security (ICE GIACARTA)
