INDONESIA TO EXPORT UREA TO 3 NATIONS AMID STRAIT OF HORMUZ CLOSURE

Indonesia is preparing to export urea fertilizer to three countries that have requested supplies amid the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. Indonesia's Agriculture Minister, Andi Amran Sulaiman, emphasized that negotiations are still ongoing, but the deals are expected to bring added value to Indonesia. He noted that the government has already secured fertilizer supplies since the beginning of the year to ensure domestic availability, aligning with President Prabowo Subianto’s policy of strengthening agricultural resilience. Despite political tensions in the Middle East, Indonesia’s food prices remain stable, supported by a national rice stock of 4.5 million tons—enough for the next 11 months. PT Pupuk Indonesia confirmed that exports will only proceed once domestic demand is fully met. The company’s operational urea production capacity stands at 8.8 million tons, with an installed capacity of 9.4 million tons, and an export quota of about 1.5 million tons, adjustable depending on local needs. Global urea prices have surged from around US$400 to US$800 per ton due to supply disruptions, but Indonesia remains secure thanks to strong domestic production. Historically, export destinations have included Australia, India, and the Philippines, and these may be among the current negotiation partners.Source: https://en.antaranews.com/news/411213/indonesia-to-export-urea-to-3-nations-amid-strait-of-hormuz-closure (ICE GIACARTA)
