Kazatomprom to extend operating life of Akdala uranium deposit by 3 yearsThe operating life of the Akdala uranium deposit will be extended for another three years, according to Meirzhan Yusupov, CEO of Kazatomprom."Regarding Akdala, the contract ends in March. We have approximately 1,700 tonnes left. We will perform additional exploration. Consequently, the operational life of Akdala will be extended for another three years," Yusupov said during a conference call to discuss the company's operational and financial results."We will continue to focus on exploration to find new volumes in the surrounding areas," he added.The subsoil use rights under the contract for exploration and uranium mining at the Akdala deposit expire on March 28, 2026. A decision was made to transfer the deposit into the trust management of Kazatomprom. The subsoil use rights under this contract belong to the South Mining and Chemical Complex LLP, which is 70% owned by Uranium One (a part of the Rosatom group) and 30% owned by Kazatomprom.National Atomic Company Kazatomprom JSC is the national operator of the Republic of Kazakhstan for export of uranium and its compounds, rare metals, nuclear fuel for nuclear power plants, special equipment, technologies and dual-use materials. Kazatomprom is controlled by Kazakhstan’s Sovereign Wealth Fund Samruk-Kazyna JSC. (ICE ALMATY)
