INDONESIAN NAVY BETS ON AUTONOMOUS DRONES TO MONITOR VAST WATERS
The Indonesian Navy is shifting toward a technology‑driven maritime security strategy by prioritizing unmanned systems—surface, aerial, and underwater drones—to monitor the country’s vast waters more efficiently and at lower cost. Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Ali emphasized that while Indonesia ideally needs around 300 ships, the future lies in combining smaller patrol vessels with autonomous drones to cover strategic maritime areas more flexibly than relying solely on traditional manned warships. Central to this modernization push is the development of a “tri‑robotic” fleet consisting of USVs, UAVs, and UUVs, all of which Indonesia aims to produce domestically to maintain technological independence. These systems will work alongside agile patrol boats and major naval assets—such as the newly arrived KRI Prabu Siliwangi‑321, as these Italian-built vessels are equipped with advanced command-and-control suites specifically designed to integrate the tri-robotic fleet Admiral Ali envisions.Source: https://indonesiabusinesspost.com/6387/defense-and-security/indonesian-navy-bets-on-autonomous-drones-to-monitor-vast-waters (ICE GIACARTA)
