EBRD TO DEVELOP 1 GW RENEWABLE PORTFOLIO IN UKRAINE BY 2026
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is developing a portfolio of private investments in renewable energy and battery energy storage systems (BESS) in Ukraine with the aim of achieving over 1 GW of capacity by 2026. The bank intends to attract private investors for projects totaling 570 MW of wind power, 240 MW of solar, and 230 MW of storage. To support this effort, RAMP UP has been established – a joint initiative of the EBRD and the World Bank – designed to stabilize renewable revenue and attract large-scale private investment. “The goal is to accelerate the sector to use Ukraine’s potential as soon as conditions improve. The first auctions are expected in 2026,” the bank stated.Additionally, the EBRD has approved a €20M emergency grant to complement financing for the installation of 120 MW of containerized cogeneration plants in Kyiv. This initiative is part of the EU Repair, Rebuild, Restart program, a €920M package aimed at securing Ukraine’s power grid for the winter of 2026-2027. Furthermore, a €2.07M technical assistance grant will fund the medium-term master plan for Kyiv’s district heating system, considering distributed cogeneration and the future integration of renewable energy sources.https://ubn.news/the-ebrd-is-building-a-renewable-energy-portfolio-in-ukraine-that-will-exceed-1-gw-and-has-allocated-e22m-to-kyiv-for-winter-preparations/ (ICE KIEV)
