INDONESIA PREPARES USD 14 BILLION DOWNSTREAM EXPANSION WITH 13 PROJECTS

Indonesia is intensifying its push for large‑scale downstream industrialization, with the government announcing 13 new projects worth IDR 239 trillion (USD 14 billion). These additions reinforce President Prabowo Subianto’s strategy to shift the economy away from raw commodity exports and toward value‑added processing across minerals, energy, and agriculture. The new investments complement earlier initiatives coordinated through the sovereign wealth platform Danantara and build on existing projects such as aluminum refining in Mempawah, aviation biofuel production in Cilacap, and bioethanol development in Banyuwangi. The effort aligns with the government’s broader focus on energy security, food resilience, and renewable fuel development—including ethanol and biodiesel—to support Indonesia’s long‑term energy transition. Separately, the Downstream Task Force has outlined 18 priority projects valued at IDR 640.4 trillion (USD 38.63 billion), spanning strategic mineral processing, agricultural downstreaming, and energy infrastructure. These include coal-to-DME conversion, nickel‑based stainless steel production, palm oil–based food and fuel processing, seaweed-derived carrageenan, large-scale oil refining, and an integrated solar module manufacturing ecosystem. Together with the newly added 13 downstream projects, the initiatives are designed to build new industrial clusters, reduce exposure to volatile commodity prices, and position Indonesia as a competitive player in electric vehicles, renewable fuels, and advanced manufacturing supply chains.Source: https://indonesiabusinesspost.com/6376/business-and-investment/indonesia-prepares-usd-14-billion-downstream-expansion-to-accelerate-industrial-transformation (ICE GIACARTA)
