Tokayev orders creation of modern trade ecosystem in KazakhstanPresident Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on Wednesday instructed the Trade and Integration Ministry to develop a modern trade ecosystem, the presidential press service said.Tokayev met with Trade and Integration Minister Arman Shakkaliyev and tasked the ministry with fostering the growth of domestic production, strengthening consumer protection, boosting export potential and promoting Kazakhstan’s economic interests, according to a statement.Shakkaliyev briefed the president on the current state of the trade sector and its development priorities.Trade remains one of Kazakhstan’s key economic sectors, accounting for about 19% of gross domestic product in 2025, he said. Investment in the sector totaled 1.2 trillion tenge, while turnover increased 8.9% to 80.3 trillion tenge.E-commerce volume reached 3.9 trillion tenge in 2025, or 15% of total retail turnover. Kazakhstan has established a network of 10 logistics centers, and construction of two large fulfillment centers in Astana and Almaty is underway, the minister said.Non-commodity exports of goods and services totaled $41 billion.Shakkaliyev also reported on activities within the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).“Since the establishment of the EAEU, as many as 69 of 70 trade barriers have been eliminated. As a result of negotiations, Kazakhstan’s positions on a number of issues were taken into account, including quotas allowing Kazakh companies to import certain goods without paying anti-dumping duties,” he said.
