INDONESIA TO TIGHTEN EXPORTS OF COAL, PALM OIL
Indonesia's President Prabowo Subianto has directed coal and palm oil producers to prioritize domestic needs before exporting, emphasizing that Indonesia’s natural resources must serve the public interest first. Speaking at a cabinet meeting, he stressed that coal production should be allocated for national energy requirements, while palm oil and its derivatives must also meet domestic demand before being shipped abroad. He underscored that while companies operate businesses, all natural wealth ultimately belongs to the Indonesian people. Indonesia's Energy and Mineral Resources Minister, Bahlil Lahadalia, echoed this stance, highlighting the Domestic Market Obligation (DMO) policy as a key instrument to regulate commodity outflows. He explained that coal companies failing to meet domestic supply commitments will have their export permits withheld. A ministerial decree is being prepared to formalize the requirement that coal production must first serve national needs, with only surplus allowed for export. This policy is part of broader efforts to strengthen Indonesia’s energy security and ensure sustainable resource management.Source: https://en.antaranews.com/news/408426/indonesia-to-tighten-exports-of-coal-palm-oil-prabowo (ICE GIACARTA)
