INDONESIA ACCELERATES AGRICULTURAL-BASED BIOENERGY TO REDUCE FOSSIL FUEL DEPEND
Indonesia is accelerating bioenergy development to strengthen energy security by utilizing cassava, oil palm, sugarcane, and corn as raw materials for alternative fuels. Coordinating Minister for Food, Zulkifli Hasan, explained that cassava will be expanded for ethanol production, while oil palm plantations will be partly dedicated to biofuel. Sugarcane and corn will also support ethanol production, diversifying the agricultural-based energy mix. This initiative follows President Prabowo Subianto’s instructions to speed up energy self-sufficiency. Although production targets have not yet been detailed, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources aims to implement a 20 percent ethanol blend (E20) in gasoline by 2028. Palm oil production is projected to reach 48.12 million tons by 2025, while corn output in 2026 is expected to hit 18 million tons. Alongside bioenergy, the government is also pushing electricity infrastructure, with plans for up to 100 gigawatts of solar power plants and a transition from gasoline to electric vehicles.Source: https://rri.co.id/en/business/2262073/indonesia-accelerates-agricultural-based-bioenergy-to-reduce-fossil-fuel-depend (ICE GIACARTA)
