Kazakhstan’s government seeking investors for development of Astana AirportPrime Minister of Kazakhstan Olzhas Bektenov held a meeting on the creation of an international aviation hub based at Astana Airport, the government's press service reported."The meeting participants discussed attracting investors for the further development of the airport. Interest from major international corporations was noted," the statement said. The Prime Minister was informed about the timely completion of the planned repair of the runway at Astana Airport.Astana Mayor Zhenis Kasymbek reported on plans for the further reconstruction and strengthening of the logistical base of the air harbor, including the construction of a new runway, repair of aprons and terminals, updating of technical equipment, etc. Furthermore, infrastructure development is planned, including logistics complexes, warehouses, hotels, offices, and administrative buildings.Currently, the airport serves about 9 million passengers per year. The project's implementation will increase its capacity to an average of 12 million passengers in the coming years. It was previously reported that Terminals Holding (UAE), which has been managing Astana Airport since November 2023, is preparing to cease its management of the airport: negotiations are underway between the Astana city administration and the company to terminate the cooperation by mutual agreement. In January 2025, it was reported that Astana International Airport was transitioning to the municipal ownership of the city due to the expiration of the trust management agreement with Terminals Astana Airport Management LLP.In May 2025, the Ministry of Transport of Kazakhstan and Terminals Astana Airport Limited (part of Terminals Holding, UAE) signed an investment agreement worth $1.1 billion, providing for the development of Astana Airport's infrastructure and the adjacent territory. The investor planned to build a second runway, a third passenger terminal, and a cargo terminal. The creation of an aerotropolis—a multifunctional complex including an industrial-logistical zone, hotels, and commercial and business spaces—was also planned. The airport of Kazakhstan's capital is the second-largest international airport in the country (after Almaty) and serves aircraft of all types without takeoff weight restrictions.Terminals Holding serves clients in the markets of Asia and Africa and is linked to the major port and industrial group AD Ports (UAE), with which Kazakhstan has a joint venture, Caspian Integrated Maritime Solutions (CIMS), for maritime cargo transportation.
