EU ALLOCATES €80 MILLION TO SUPPORT JORDAN IN HOSTING SYRIAN REFUGEES
The European Commission has approved an additional funding package worth €80 million to support Jordan’s ongoing efforts to host Syrian refugees and to provide social assistance and essential services to the most vulnerable refugee groups and host communities affected by displacement since the onset of the Syrian crisis. According to the decision issued by the Commission — as reported and translated by Al-Mamlaka TV — the funding aims to strengthen social protection systems, deliver direct services to the most vulnerable refugees, and promote sustainable solutions to the refugee situation in Jordan. The measure aligns with the EU’s commitments and financial pledges announced during the Ninth Brussels Conference on Supporting the Future of Syria and the Region. The European Commission said the additional funding comes in response to “accelerating and unforeseen needs” resulting from recent developments in the Syrian crisis, worsening social and economic conditions, the impact of the war on Gaza, the continued vulnerability of refugees and host communities in Jordan, and a decline in available funding from other sources.
