Kazakhstan to build waste-to-energy plants in Astana, ShymkentKazakhstan's Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources announced Monday it has signed agreements to build large-scale waste-to-energy plants in the capital, Astana, and the city of Shymkent.The agreements were concluded with the companies Shaanxi Construction Engineering Kazakhstan Co., Ltd and East Hope, the ministry's press service reported Monday. The projects represent a combined investment of 148.3 billion tenge.According to the ministry, a plant with a capacity of 1,500 tonnes of waste per day will be built in Astana with an investment of 94.4 billion tenge. A separate facility in Shymkent will process 1,000 tonnes per day, funded by an investment of 53.9 billion tenge. The combined annual processing capacity will be approximately 910,000 tonnes.The ministry stated that the projects will create more than 550 jobs during the construction phase and approximately 200 permanent positions once the plants are operational.
