Hungary to expand energy ties with Turkic nations - foreign ministerHungary is committed to strengthening its energy cooperation with member states of the Organization of Turkic States, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said Friday.Speaking at a meeting of the organization's council of foreign ministers in Gabala, Azerbaijan, Szijjarto stated that "Turkic nations are key to successful diversification efforts."Szijjarto noted that Hungary already imports gas from Turkey, while Hungarian companies MOL and MVM are participants in oil and gas projects in Azerbaijan. He also said Hungary plans to import 600,000 tonnes of oil from Kazakhstan this year, accounting for 8% of its total oil imports, and that Hungarian technology will be used for the construction of a nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan."Hungary will continue to work on making its energy partnership with Turkic states even more successful," he said. The minister emphasized that Budapest's goal is to diversify energy supplies by adding new sources and transport routes, not by replacing existing reliable suppliers.Szijjarto added that Hungary's trade turnover with Organization of Turkic States members has doubled since 2010, reaching $5 billion.
