VIETNAM’S 2025 TRADE TURNOVER COULD SURPASS $900 BILLION
Vietnam’s trade turnover is on track to exceed US$900 billion in 2025, marking a historic milestone. According to Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyễn Hồng Diên, industrial production, retail, and external trade all performed strongly despite global and domestic challenges. In September alone, trade turnover hit US$82.5 billion, bringing the nine-month total to over US$680 billion, well above expectations. Retail sales grew 9.5 per cent in the first nine months, while e-commerce expanded by over 22 per cent. Diên projected a trade surplus above US$20 billion for the year but warned of potential risks in the final quarter, including global tensions, inflation, and new trade barriers, particularly from the U.S. To sustain growth, the ministry plans to support businesses, accelerate public investment, and enhance market access through trade fairs and negotiations. New free trade agreements with the Gulf Cooperation Council, Mercosur, and Pakistan are being pursued to diversify markets, reinforce supply chains, and strengthen Vietnam’s role in global trade.
