TELECOMS MINISTER RELAUNCHES TELECOMMUNICATIONS REGULATORY AUTHORITY AFTER 13 YEARS
Minister of Telecommunications, Charles Hajj, on Monday officially relaunched the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority after a 13-year suspension, during a ceremony at the ministry attended by Chairperson Jenny El Gemayel and board members Diana Bou Ghanem, Raja Chérif, Mohammad Ayoub, and Haitham Sarhan. Hajj congratulated the new board, emphasizing that “competence, not affiliation,” guided their appointment, and highlighted the negative impact of the TRA’s absence on Lebanon’s telecom sector. He said the authority’s revival would restore balance, improve governance, and attract investment, noting that Lebanon must “act today, not tomorrow” to modernize the sector. Hajj also pledged cooperation to expand broadband access through fiber optics, wireless, and satellite networks, and to link Lebanon to global infrastructure via new cables. El Gemayel thanked President Joseph Aoun, Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, and Hajj for their confidence, affirming the TRA’s commitment to transparency, independence, and reform. (ICE BEIRUT)
