ITALY’S ENI NORTH AFRICA RESUMES EXPLORATION ACTIVITY IN OFFSHORE AREA NORTHWEST of Libya
The National Oil Corporation (NOC) announced that Italy’s Eni North Africa has resumed its exploration activities in the offshore area northwest of Libya, specifically in Block (4/16), after more than five years of suspension.According to the NOC, exploration operations have restarted with the re-entry to complete drilling at the exploratory well J1–16/4 (known as BESS-3), where work was halted in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The NOC explained that the drilling rig Ensco 4005 began operations at well J1–16/4 on March 11, 2020, reaching a depth of 1,012 feet before the pandemic forced the well to be secured and temporarily abandoned, and the rig released on April 14, 2020.The exploratory well J1–16/4 is located in Contract Area (D), formerly known as MN 41, in the offshore zone northwest of Libya at a water depth of around 743 meters. It lies approximately 95 kilometers off the Libyan coast and about 15 kilometers from the Bahr Essalam gas field. (ICE TRIPOLI)
