The resurgence of gold in recent weeks has also brought strong increases in the prices of the other two metals. All three have recorded increases of several dozen percent after nine months of the year. Since the beginning of the year, the price of an ounce of gold has risen by 45.7 percent, while silver has risen by 62.5 percent and platinum by 76.7 percent. Fundamental factors favouring gold and the other two precious metals are not difficult to identify, but it is quite clear to market participants that it is not just about increased geopolitical tension, the undermining of the Fed's independence or the weakness of the dollar - highly speculative capital has also entered the precious metals market.
