TANZANIA PCCB INVESTIGATES 7.47BN/- PROJECTS IN SINGIDA REGION

 The Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau (PCCB) in Singida Region has recovered 35 million/- while monitoring 23 development projects valued at 7.47 billion/-. According to PCCB Regional Bureau Chief Sosthenes Kibwengo, investigations revealed irregularities, including 20 million/- that was not remitted to the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) and 13.34 million/- wrongly paid to contractors without proper delivery of materials. One contractor was also found ineligible for VAT but had received 641,520/- during the construction of a teachers’ house at Utemini Secondary School. Key projects under scrutiny include Amali-Msange, Kijota, Mtoa Darajani, Kidarafa, Ngimu Health Centre, and Kintinku Secondary School. Between April and June, PCCB reached 6,632 citizens through 42 seminars, public meetings, radio programs, and exhibitions, encouraging community participation in fighting corruption. They also strengthened 40 school clubs and resolved 88 cases under the “PCCB Rafiki” programme. During this period, PCCB received 75 complaints, 51 related to corruption. The bureau continues to operate under the Prevention and Combating of Corruption Act No. 11 of 2007, urging citizens to report corruption and actively engage in accountability efforts.
