EU AMBASSADORS TO VISIT KILIMANJARO TO STRENGTHEN AGRICULTURAL TIES

A delegation of 12 European Union (EU) and member state ambassadors, led by EU Ambassador Christine Grau, will begin a three-day mission to Kilimanjaro Region tomorrow to assess EU-funded agricultural projects and engage directly with smallholder farmers. The visit will focus on initiatives in coffee production, organic pesticide manufacturing, forestry training, and agricultural research, with the goal of fostering sustainable practices and listening to farmers’ challenges. The visit comes as the EU deepens its financial engagement in Tanzania’s agricultural sector. Under the 2021–2027 partnership, the EU has committed €585 million (1.7 trillion TZS) in grants, with agriculture and agri-food systems as key priorities. Recently, the €10 million (29.1 billion TZS) STOSAR II project was launched to improve agricultural data systems, food safety, plant and animal health, and market access, focusing on women, youth, and small enterprises across the SADC region.Trade between Tanzania and the EU is also on the rise, with Tanzanian agri-food exports to the EU reaching €511 million in 2024, a 30% increase from the previous year. The visit coincides with the 50th anniversary of EU–Tanzania diplomatic relations and highlights Team Europe’s commitment to supporting climate-resilient growth and strengthening livelihoods in Tanzania’s export-driven agricultural sectors.
