EAEU to tighten safety requirements for perfumery and cosmetic productsThe Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission has adopted amendments to the technical regulation of the Eurasian Economic Union "On the Safety of Perfumery and Cosmetic Products," the EEC press service reported on Friday."The requirements for the composition of perfumery and cosmetic products have been clarified, including updating the lists of substances prohibited for use in such products, permitted for use with established restrictions, and permitted colorants, preservatives, and UV filters," the statement said. The amendments will come into force 12 months after their official publication."At the same time, the draft provides for a deferred provision (until January 1, 2027) for the maximum theoretical concentration of formaldehyde that may be released from the finished product. Manufacturers must indicate this information in the labeling," the EEC noted. It is specified that currently, the labeling must include the words "contains formaldehyde" if the theoretical concentration of formaldehyde exceeds 0.05%. "Starting January 1, 2027, a new norm will come into effect, and the words 'contains formaldehyde' will need to be included in the labeling if the theoretical concentration of formaldehyde exceeds 0.001%," the press service explained.
