QATAR’S MINISTRY OF TRANSPORT LAUNCHES QAR 1.2 BILLION STRATEGY

Qatar has unveiled a comprehensive national strategy to transform its transport and logistics sector over the next five years, with a vision to build an “integrated, safe, resilient, and sustainable transportation system” that advances the country’s economic, social, and environmental ambitions.  The Ministry of Transport (MOT) Strategy 2025–2030, launched by HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani under the slogan “Reaching Beyond Horizons”, sets out a QAR 1.2 billion programme anchored in innovation, sustainability, and global competitiveness.   In his keynote address, HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulla bin Mohammed Al Thani, Minister of Transport, underscored that the strategy “stems from the Qatar National Vision 2030 and is aligned with the MOT’s endeavours to achieve the goals of the 3rd National Development Strategy.”   He highlighted its ambition to create “a world-class infrastructure that places the country in an advanced position globally in terms of logistics performance, digital transformation, and smart mobility innovation.”  The roadmap encompasses 125 projects built on 42 strategic initiatives, with 40% of investment coming from private sector participation.   According to the minister, these projects will help double the transport sector’s contribution to GDP, attract high-value investments, and reinforce Qatar’s standing as a regional and global logistics hub.  The minister emphasised that the strategy represents “the MOT’s unwavering commitment to creating a secure, integrated, resilient, and sustainable transportation system based on advanced technologies and innovation, while enhancing traffic safety standards, reducing carbon emissions, and providing innovative digital services.”  Among its goals, the MOT plans to expand eco-friendly public transport and ensure connectivity across all areas of the country.   Currently, 73% of Qatar’s public bus fleet is electric, with a target of 100% by 2030 to complement the metro and tram systems.  Seventeen dedicated initiatives will enhance the efficiency and inclusiveness of public transport services, with a focus on accessibility for all residents, including people of determination.   The strategy also calls for developing smart control centres and digital applications to meet the needs of citizens and residents.  Workforce development stands as a central pillar of the strategy, with commitments to comprehensive training and upskilling programmes that prepare national talent to lead the next generation of smart mobility. The minister said, “The Strategy embodies the MOT’s unwavering commitment to providing innovative digital services that meet the aspirations of citizens, residents, and coming generations.”  Institutional excellence, innovation, sustainability, and strong partnerships are at the heart of the ministry’s approach. With nearly half of its investments driven by private sector participation, the strategy reflects a model of public-private collaboration to accelerate Qatar’s economic diversification.  The Ministry of Transport has outlined five overarching aspirations to guide the plan: enabling economic growth, optimising services, enhancing customer-centricity, driving sustainability and resilience, and developing the national workforce.  Concluding the launch, the minister described the roadmap as “a major transformative journey that we step into with confidence and determination, in collaboration with all MOT public and private sector partners, to present the State of Qatar to the world as a unique model in smart, integrated, secure, and sustainable transportation.”   (ICE Doha)
