ALCOHOL MARKET SHRINKS IN POLAND
Although the food and chemical products market is slowly growing overall, with spending in this area increasing by 1.7 percent over the last 12 months, this does not apply to alcohol. The latest data from NielsenIQ shows that this sector has shrunk by 5.6 percent. Over the last 12 months, Poles spent almost PLN52 bn on alcohol, including PLN24 bn on spirits, and the sector shrank by 0.1 percent. Beer and cider sector fell by as much as 4.5 percent to PLN22.8 bn. Expenditure on wine amounted to PLN4.9 bn, which represents a year-on-year decrease of 0.1 percent. “Beer still reigns supreme in Poland. It is the largest category, accounting for over 44 percent of alcohol spending and 85 percent of alcohol consumption”, says Anna Wagner of NielsenIQ. (ICE VARSAVIA)
