KAZAKHSTAN-GRAIN-EXPORT-FORECAST

Kazakhstan grain and flour exports will decrease 13% in 2025/26 MY – Grain Union  Kazakhstan’s grain and flour exports in grain-equivalent terms are projected at 10.4 million tonnes in the 2025/26 marketing year (MY, September 2025–August 2026), down 13% from 2024/25 but 17% above the multi-year average, Yevgeny Karabanov, head of analytics at the Grain Union of Kazakhstan, told Interfax-Kazakhstan.The forecast includes exports of 6 million tonnes of wheat and 1.7 million tonnes of barley, he said.Karabanov noted steady growth in exports of processed products, particularly feed flour, to China. He added that because Kazakhstan lacks direct access to seaports, its wheat and flour exports remain concentrated in nearby traditional markets: Uzbekistan (wheat and flour), Afghanistan (wheat and flour), China (feed flour, wheat, flour), Tajikistan (wheat and flour), Kyrgyzstan (wheat and flour), and Turkmenistan (flour and wheat).“Among distant markets, Kazakhstan supplies durum wheat for pasta production to Italy, where last marketing year we became the world’s third-largest supplier of durum wheat,” Karabanov said.He stressed that if the government allocates budget funds to partially offset transport costs, Kazakhstan could expand wheat exports to North Africa and the Middle East in 2025/26, as was the case in the previous season.According to the Grain Union, Kazakhstan is expected to harvest 21.7 million tonnes of grain this year, including 16.2 million tonnes of wheat.Earlier, Deputy Agriculture Minister Azat Sultanov said the 2025 harvest could exceed 20 million tonnes if weather remains favorable, with exports projected at 8–9 million tonnes. The Agriculture Ministry reported a record 26.5 million tonnes of grain harvested in 2024, with an average yield of 1.6 tonnes per hectare. From September 2024 to July 2025, Kazakhstan exported 12.4 million tonnes of grain and flour in grain equivalent terms, up 33.3% year-on-year. (ICE ALMATY)
