KAZAKHSTAN-INVESTMENT-OVERHAUL
Kazakh president gives PM 10 days to reform 'unsatisfactory' investment systemPresident Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on Monday gave Kazakhstan's prime minister 10 days to develop specific proposals for overhauling what he called an "unsatisfactory" system for attracting foreign investment."In the current difficult situation, attracting investments is a top priority that requires new approaches from us," Tokayev told a joint session of parliament. "This matter falls under the jurisdiction of 3-4 institutions and finds no solution." He ordered the government to develop an action plan for a "fundamental update" of the investment system in the shortest possible time. The president emphasized that all organizational work for investment attraction would be personally overseen by the prime minister, but noted there was no need to establish a new ministry. He observed that despite the importance of foreign investment, "not a single government body has the word 'investment' in its name." (ICE ALMATY)
