Kazakhstan in talks with China for construction of two nuclear power plants Kazakhstan is continuing negotiations with China on the potential construction of two nuclear power plants, the head of the country's atomic energy agency, Almasadam Satkaliyev, said Monday.Satkaliyev told reporters that while no agreements have been signed yet with China, discussions are ongoing regarding the possible involvement of China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) in building two of three planned nuclear plants in Kazakhstan."No final agreement has been reached yet," Satkaliyev said. "We need to complete the entire stage of commercial negotiations. The government must determine the construction site, make calculations, and understand the financing terms."The announcement comes as Russia's Rosatom is already preparing to build Kazakhstan's first nuclear power plant near Ulken village in the Almaty region, with site survey work beginning in August 2025. The three-plant nuclear cluster represents a significant expansion of Kazakhstan's energy infrastructure.-- (ICE ALMATY)
