INDONESIA SEEKS GLOBAL INVESTMENT FOR US$80 BLN GIANT SEA WALL PROJECT

Indonesia is advancing its Giant Sea Wall project along Java’s northern coast as part of a national strategy to combat coastal flooding and climate change. Indonesia's Coordinating Minister for Economic, Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, announced plans to invite international investors through a public-private partnership (PPP) model, targeting countries such as China, Japan, South Korea, and several European nations. The initiative, part of the National Strategic Programme (PSN), is a flagship effort under President Prabowo Subianto’s administration to protect vulnerable coastal communities from rising sea levels. The project, estimated at USD80 billion (Rp1.32 quadrillion), was discussed during President Prabowo’s recent meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing. To accelerate implementation, the government has established the Pantura Authority, led by retired Vice Admiral Didit Herdiawan Ashaf. This body will oversee the construction of the 700-kilometer sea wall stretching from Banten to East Java and develop a comprehensive roadmap for the region’s coastal protection and development. Originally proposed in 1995, the project had long been stalled but has now been revived as a national priority. The initiative reflects Indonesia’s broader commitment to climate resilience and infrastructure modernization, with strategic international collaboration at its core.Source: https://en.antaranews.com/news/378017/indonesia-seeks-global-investment-for-80-bln-giant-sea-wall-project (ICE GIACARTA)
