Kazakhstan to impose temporary beef export quotas to curb domestic price hikesKazakhstan will introduce temporary export quotas on beef to curb rising prices in the domestic market, the government’s press service announced on Thursday. The decision was made during a meeting of the Interdepartmental Commission on Foreign Trade Policy and Participation in International Economic Organizations. "The measure is designed to ensure sufficient supply of cattle meat for the domestic population while allowing major producers to maintain existing export contracts and retain foreign market share," the government said. The Ministry of Agriculture will issue the relevant order. No further details were immediately provided. The move follows comments from a deputy agriculture minister, Azat Sultanov, who said on Tuesday that rising prices are linked to high demand in neighboring markets. He noted that Kazakhstan's meat exports have doubled this year compared to the previous year but emphasized that there is no domestic shortage, with reserves of approximately 50,000 tonnes sufficient to supply the population for several months.According to earlier reports from Agriculture Minister Aidarbek Saparov, Kazakhstan increased its beef exports by 40% to 22,000 tonnes in 2024, while mutton exports grew by 120% to 18,000 tonnes.
