KAZAKHSTAN-LENTIL-EXPORTS
Kazakhstan emerges as major lentil producer, dramatically boosting global exportsKazakhstan has rapidly become a significant force on the global lentil market, with production and export volumes surging dramatically in recent years, according to a report by Russia's federal Agroexport center. The country's lentil production reached 456,000 tonnes in 2024, a figure that is twice the 2023 output and more than eight times higher than in 2021. The sown area for the crop more than doubled to approximately 646,000 hectares in 2025.This production surge is reflected in export numbers, with Kazakhstan shipping 228,000 tonnes of lentils in 2024, a 43% increase from the previous year. In the first half of this year, exports reached about 101,000 tonnes, nearly triple the volume from the same period last year.Turkey remains the primary buyer of Kazakh lentils, importing 141,000 tonnes in 2024. Other significant importers include Italy, the United Arab Emirates and Afghanistan. Analysts note that "while expanded acreage signals Kazakhstan's growing role in the global market, higher logistics costs due to the country's geographical location remain a constraining factor."
